EIA: retail gasoline, diesel prices move higher EIA: retail gasoline, diesel prices move higher
The U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline surged 6.1 cents last week to settle at 282.3 cents per gallon as of October 22, which is 61.5 cents higher than last year, according to the Oct. 24 edition of "This Week in Petroleum," published by the Energy Information Administration (EIA).
TAll regions were higher, with the West Coast reaching 306.5 cents per gallon, an increase of 8.6 cents and the highest price in the country, according to the EIA report. (Full Story)

Wawa does away with artificial milk hormones Wawa does away with artificial milk hormones
Wawa, Inc. announced that it will produce milk that is free of artificial growth hormones (rBST).
The artificial bovine growth hormone will be eliminated from all milk that Wawa processes and sells at its 570 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia, the company said. (Full Story)

ConocoPhillips reports third-quarter net income of $3.7 billion
ConocoPhillips on Oct. 24 reported third-quarter net income of $3,673 million, or $2.23 per share. This compares with $3,876 million, or $2.31 per share, for the same quarter in 2006. Revenues were $46.1 billion, versus $48.1 billion a year ago. (Full Story)

Forty-one states have reached a settlement with the Kroger Co. grocery chain over the sale of tobacco to minors, the Associated Press reported Oct. 23. (Full Story)

EPA orders New York fuel company to pay $193,538 penalty
The Environmental Protection Agency has ordered Century Oil Acquisition Corp., Spring Valley, N.Y., to pay a $193,538 penalty for not taking required measures to detect and prevent fuel leaks from underground storage tanks it operated in the 1990s in northeast Pennsylvania, according to an Oct. 24 article by Hema Easley in The Journal News. One-third of South Florida stations said to fail pump accuracy tests
In South Florida, 34 percent of the gas stations inspected in the past three years had at least one gas pump that failed accuracy tests used to determine if the devices are giving consumers the correct amount of gas they pay for, a South Florida Sun-Sentinel analysis found. (Full Story)
In Lincoln, Ill., a Shell station finally turns on its pumps
