Wholesale and retail gasoline markets in five Northeast states were studied for a recently released report that was commissioned by the attorneys general of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont.
The report is designed to help officials in the five states analyze what factors influence price changes, and in turn, help consumers, according to the attorneys general in those states. (Full Story)

The U.S. House voted Sept. 25 to expand the national health care plan that insures children, but the measure is expected to be vetoed by President Bush. The deadline to reauthorize the program is Sept. 30. The Senate is expected to pass the measure this week, according to news reports.
The House voted to expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP, by $35 billion over five years, funded by a $0.61 federal excise tax (FET) increase on cigarettes, according to tobacco industry analyst Bonnie Herzog of Citigroup Investment Research. (Full Story)

EIA: retail gasoline and diesel prices move higher
The U.S. average retail price for regular gasoline increased 2.5 cents last week to 281.2 cents per gallon as of September 24, 2007, 43.4 cents higher than last year, according to the Sept. 26 issue of "This Week in Petroleum," published by the Energy Information Administration (EIA). (Full Story)

Local gas station is first to install ethanol pumps in Spokane County
Grocery Boys owner Jasper Thabel is setting a new trend by bringing in the first ever ethanol pump to Spokane County, Washington, according to a Sept. 25 report by Janet O of KXLY-TV. (Full Story)
General Mills snacks made especially for sale in gas stations, C-stores
General Mills said its new Pillsbury Sweet Minis will debut in October. The product includes chocolate chip cookies, brownie bites and miniature doughnuts, served hot in a portable cup, and it retails for $1.99, according to a Sept. 24 report by MSN.com. (Full Story)

NPRA: Nutmeg state's delegation missed target on GAO request

City council in Charlotte, N.C., to vote on purchasing C-stores
In North Carolina, the Charlotte City Council is to vote Sept. 24 on whether to buy three vacant convenience stores with proceeds from an eventual resale going toward a $5 million retail center to revitalize Belmont, a blighted neighborhood where the stores are located, according to an article by Victoria Cherrie in The Charlotte Observer. Susser Holdings Corp. announced Sept. 21 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the parent company of San Angelo, Texas-based Town & Country Food Stores in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $361 million, subject to certain closing adjustments and before transaction costs and expenses.
