After thousands of people recently protested a permit that allows BP's refinery in Whiting, Ind., to increase discharges into Lake Michigan, the oil company is taking further steps to address public concerns, according to statements by BP and elected officials.
"At the request of U.S. Representatives Judy Biggert (R-IL) and Pete Visclosky (D-IN), and with the support of BP America President Bob Malone, scientists at Argonne National Laboratory and Purdue University Calumet will explore emerging technologies that could address wastewater treatment affecting the Great Lakes," BP said in an Aug. 8 press release. Wachovia Bank will be the exclusive ATM provider to Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market when the first stores debut in Southern California, Las Vegas and Phoenix this fall, Tesco and Wachovia Corp. stated.
Tesco, the world's third largest retailer, announced in 2006 it would make its first foray into the U.S. grocery market with a new chain of neighborhood-based stores on the West Coast. (Full Story)

NewGen Technologies, Inc. announced that it has a strategic agreement with Granite Group Chicago, LLC for the exclusive rights to develop an innovative gas station convenience store prototype design and the rights to immediately begin development of a minimum of 14 retail locations over the next two years in the Charlotte, North Carolina market.
